“Body scanning machines have been touted as a solution for catching hidden explosives and other dangerous items after a would-be bomber attempted to blow up a Christmas Day flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, using explosives concealed in his underwear. Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport has 15 of the scanners, but none were used to scan the would-be bomber before he boarded the flight, according to the Associated Press.”
“There are currently 40 full-body scanners being used at 19 U.S. airports. Some are being used for primary screening — instead of the traditional metal detectors — while others are reserved only for so-called secondary screening. The Transportation Security Administration has ordered 300 more machines in the wake of the recent bombing attempt, according to The Washington Post. Some in Congress want to limit the use to passengers designated for special screening.” – WIRED

Brittany Murphy died Sunday after collapsing in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home. Murphy’s death may have been the result of heart-related causes. She was only 32 years old.

LIL WAYNE GUILTY PLEAD

‘The Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession, and expects to receive a one-year jail sentence. He previously had pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession charges that carried at least 3 1/2 years in prison upon conviction. Police said a gun was found on his tour bus in Manhattan in 2007.” – Washington Post

“A vaccine to prevent HIV infection has shown modest results for the first time, researchers have found. In what is being called the world’s largest HIV vaccine trial ever, researchers found that people who received a series of inoculations of a prime vaccine and booster vaccine were 31 percent less likely to get HIV, compared with those on a placebo. “Before this study, it was thought vaccine for HIV is not possible,” a researcher said” -CNN
